The following applies to those who are in their final year of full time education and are considering a career as an actor: -

Before contacting an agent, do your research! The internet is an invaluable source of information and Hatton McEwan is one of the industry leaders in using it to promote both agency and clients. There are so many sites, http://www.IMDB.comis among the best.

You should also ask around. How did last years final year do? How many graduates got professional work and after how long? Who has chosen to wait table at the local Gastropub between jobs and who is on benefits?

And for the agents who you want to meet..? Well, again, their website should tell you a good deal about them. Who works there and what is their background and experience? How many clients do they have? From their site do you get some kind of ‘feel’ for the company? After all, these are the people who will be speaking on your behalf, who will represent you. Who will, in some circumstances, advise you. Do you know any of their clients and how are they getting on with their agent.

The agent you sign with will play a vital part in your professional life, hopefully for a long time. It is very important that you gain the information that is in the public domain before you sign. What do they say about themselves and what do others say about them.

So get pointing and clicking. Finding out has never been so easy.
